This pipe bowl, identifiable by shape to the 1660-1680 period, was found in the yard outside of the original Taylor family homestead. Archaeologists love pipes. The stems are datable due to the shrinking of the stem’s bore over the centuries (as the stems got longer the stem bores got smaller)and the bowl styles changed over the centuries as tobacco became cheaper and styles changed. Thus, even more so than a coin, pipes, which are much more common than coins, are a beloved artifact to find.
