This vessel is a small plate with a distinctive turquoise glaze that was probably a product of the Persian Empire produced during the Safavid period(1501-1732). Fragments of similar vessels have been found at the Wing Fort House in Sandwich (in ca. 1700 context), the Ezra Perry II (Aptucxet Trading Post Museum) Homesite (in a ca. 1720 context), and from the William Bradford III Homesite in Kingston (in a ca. 1720-30 context). This vessel, like the Italian and the Portuguese ones, appear to represent a new focus on trade and the acquisition of foreign luxury items from the south to southwestern Mediterranean area in the early 18th century.
