It was not carved by Vikings, or Phoenicians, or any other Old World culture (at least there is no evidence that it was) but was most probably carved by the local Native people of the Herring Pond/ Manamet community. This may not make it Discovery Channel worthy, but it is an important finding for a culturally important stone.
